School Grant Program
"
Friends of LBL
" in partnership with the Center of
Environmental Education at Murray State University and the USDA Forest
Service at LBL has developed a program to assist with funding educational
visits to LBL and its educational facilities.
Grant Application Info is
found here.
In a recent year, 2,580 students and teachers from IN, KY,
MO, and TN were
assisted with travel costs in excess of $20,000. The children and
their teachers visited the Woodlands Nature Station, the Golden Pond
Planetarium, the Homeplace and possibly spent days and nights at the
Brandon Spring Group Camp for connections with environmental
education, earth science, and cultural history.

The comments received were excellent as you can see

Although our visit fell on a very cold November day,
it did not dampen the excitement and enthusiasm that we experienced.
The children were very impressed with the way of life that you
portrayed from the 1850's. The absence of heat and air
conditioning was almost more than they could comprehend. The
farm animals and the scenery, which surround the farm was amazing and
the grounds were immaculate. Thank you for your time, patience,
and hospitality. Our trip was most definitely a memorable one
that our students will remember for years to come.

You have a great facility for educating young people.
Your people and staff were very friendly and knowledgeable.
Thanks for your assistance. I hope that we have an opportunity
to apply for additional grants in the future.

In our school poverty is very high. LBL should be very proud of the caring
staff they employ. Each person we dealt with was so helpful and
courteous.

Everything was wonderful. One part of the
program that really made me think more about animals and nature was at
the Nature Station. As our leader was explaining about each bird
and animal, it made me think how important it is for us to preserve
and take care of these animals. I learned that we are in it
together to preserve this beautiful planet of ours.

The facilities were wonderful!
Everyone in our group had a great time and learned quite a lot about
environmental education and about each other. I think this trip
brought our group closer together by providing experiences for
leadership, self-esteem, and team building. We are already
looking forward to returning next year! Thanks so much !!
