The Homeplace

Visit The Homeplace and experience life on an 1850's farm.  Join the living history interpreters as they go about their daily chores, weekly calendar of event programs and special events.

Daily activities on a working farm from the 1850's would involve a variety of tasks which would vary from day to day depending upon the weather and the time of year.  The Homeplace is a working farm;  thus not every activity will be seen daily.

The 1850's farm raises heirloom vegetables and crops, as well as minor breeds of farm animals.  Heirloom vegetables and crops are those plants that would have been growing on the Stewart County Tennessee farm in the 1850's.

Horses and oxen are used to plow and to cultivate fields and the garden.  Other daily activities may include:  woodworking, spinning, hearth and woodstove cooking, period food preservation as well as animal care.

Calendar of events programs include a great variety of topics including programs like:

  • Iron Furnace
  • Textiles
