Blown Away: The Wild World of Weather features a journey into space to explore the Sun’s effect on weather conditions and on-screen appearances by news meteorologists to further uncover the science of our planet’s climate.

Teachers can access a Resource Kit to assist with their teaching this important earth science lesson.  It will assist you in preparing your class to fully benefit from their visit to the Golden Pond Planetarium.  There are pre-visit activities that your students will enjoy and from which they will learn important lessons.

The following teaching objectives will be achieved as a result of your children's viewing this program at the GP Planetarium:

The Perseid Meteor Showers peak in the skies during mid August when tiny bits and pieces of the Comet Swift-Tuttle "shower" Earth’s skies.  The graphic is provided to share relative position in the skies for you to look to see this meteor shower.  They are named this because of the pulsing lights that seem to issue forth from the constellation Perseus.  Be sure to take advantage of clear night skies and watch this marvelous nighttime sky show.

The best time to see this year's Perseid meteor shower is
just before dawn.

Did you know..?

The 40-foot (12.2m) diameter dome in the Golden Pond Planetarium weighs approximately 3,000 lbs, and if you lined up all of the perforations in one row, with no spaces in between, they would extend 33.40 miles.  There are approximately 20,348,928 perforations in the hemisphere, and you could fit 249,945,112 plain M&Ms inside of the dome.

There is plenty of room for your and for your family to see and hear the excitement shared by our interpreters and the exciting programs offered at the Golden Pond Planetarium.

Educators will want to go to our Educator Resource Page for items which can be of assistance in development classes and illustrating teaching objectives about the heavens and those who travel there by spacecraft.
