Partners for Education on
Public Lands

For More Info see below
The
Cumberland and Tennessee River region is very fortunate to have a
diversity of public lands set aside for our enjoyment and use as well as
for preservation of our heritage. Four Federal Agencies, US Forest
Service, National Park Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service and Army
Corps of Engineers manage many public lands along the Cumberland River
(Lake Barkley) and Tennessee River (Kentucky Lake).
Management
responsibilities involve:
Army Corps of
Engineers -
Lake Barkley Visitor Center (located at the Lake Barkley Dam)
and manages many areas along the two reservoirs.
US Forest Service -
Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area
National Park Service -
Fort Donelson National Battlefield
US Fish and Wildlife Service -
Cross Creeks National Wildlife Refuge
Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge
PEPL
Partners for Education on Public Lands.
Sharing common
educational goals, to teach appreciation for and understanding of the
importance of our natural and cultural resources and to teach good
stewardship of these resources and our public lands, a unique partnership
was formed between these four federal agencies and
Friends of LBL,
the only non-government partner.
To achieve the
goals of PEPL and of each federal agency, we host workshops/activities for
teachers and home educators and others several times per year. These
workshops promote the educational opportunities available at each public
land through field trips, hands-on activities, play and sharing of ideas
and resources.
A recent activity
was celebration of Earth Camp at Cross Creeks National Wildlife Refuge.
You can see some of the
sights here.
